How do I create an account? Can I sign up with Google?

Go to Start now / Register and fill in your details, or continue with your Google account. If you sign up with email you will need to verify it with the code we send you before you can start.

What is the alias and can I change it?

Accepted Answer

Your alias is your unique username in TripCoaster: you can use it to sign in and other people can use it to find you. It must have at least 6 characters, with no accents, and it cannot be changed once created.

How do I create my first trip?

From the Trips section, tap the button to create a new trip. You can build it by hand (name, dates and destinations) or from your photos. See the questions in "Trips, photos & diary" for details.

Do I need to install anything, or does it work in the browser?

You do not need to install anything. TripCoaster works directly in your browser, on computer, tablet and phone.

How do I add TripCoaster to my phone's home screen?

iPhone / iPad: open TripCoaster in Safari, tap the Share button, choose "Add to Home Screen" and tap "Add". Android: open TripCoaster in Chrome, tap the three-dot menu, choose "Add to Home screen" and confirm. It will open in full screen like an app.

How do I change the language?

Open Profile and use the Language section. TripCoaster is available in English and Spanish, and your choice is saved to your account.

I did not receive the verification email, what can I do?

Accepted Answer

Check your spam or junk folder first. If it is not there, request a new code from the verification screen. Codes expire after a few minutes, so always use the most recent one. Also check that you typed your email address correctly.

I forgot my password, how do I recover it?

On the login screen choose Forgot password, enter your email and we will send you a reset code. Enter it and choose a new password.

How do I change my password or my email?

Go to Profile → Security. To change your password you will need your current one. To change your email, we send a 6-digit code to the new address (valid for 10 minutes) to confirm it. If you signed up with Google you can confirm with Google instead of a password.

How do I change my profile photo and edit my profile?

In Profile tap your photo to upload one from your gallery or take a new one with the camera, then drag and zoom to crop it. In the same page you can edit your name, date of birth and location.

What is two-factor authentication (MFA) and how do I turn it on?

It adds an extra step when you sign in: besides your password you enter a code from an authenticator app on your phone. Turn it on from Profile → Security → Two-factor authentication and follow the steps to link your app.

What are trusted devices and how do I revoke them?

If you choose to trust a device when you sign in with MFA, it will not ask for the code again for 180 days. You can see, rename and revoke your trusted devices (one by one or all at once) from the devices page in your security settings. A revoked device will ask for MFA on its next login.

How do I delete my account and what happens to my data?

You can delete it from the Danger zone at the bottom of your Profile. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone: all your trips, diaries, photos, friendships and profile data are removed.

Who can see my trips by default?

Each trip is Private (only you and the people you invite as collaborators) or Public (also your friends). You choose the default for new trips in Profile → Trip privacy, and you can change it for each trip individually.

In Trips, tap the button to create a new trip and fill in the name, dates, destinations and visibility. Afterwards you can add places, photos and diary entries to it.

How do I create a trip from my photos?

Choose the option to create a trip from photos, drag your photos in (or browse your files) and TripCoaster reads their GPS location and date to build the trip for you. You can review and adjust everything before saving.

JPEG, PNG, HEIC and NEF, up to 50 MB per photo.

My photos have no GPS or date, can I still use them?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Automatic trip creation works best with GPS and date data, but you can create the trip manually and add the photos afterwards, then edit each photo's date and location yourself. Some phones remove GPS data when sharing photos, so try sending the original file.

How do I edit a trip (name, dates, cover, destinations)?

Open the trip and use the edit option to change its name, dates, cover photo and destinations. You can also add or remove places at any time.

How do I plan a future trip and what is a live trip?

Create a trip with future dates and it shows as Scheduled: until it starts you can add places and companions. When the trip is happening it becomes Live, with shortcuts to write today's memories and add photos, and you can finish it or extend its dates.

Open the trip and use the add buttons to write a diary entry or upload photos. Each entry and photo is placed on the trip timeline by its date and time.

Why does a photo show a different time than I expected?

TripCoaster always shows the local time at the destination, exactly as the camera recorded it: a photo taken at 23:00 shows 23:00, whatever your own time zone is. If a time is wrong, open the photo and edit its date and time.

Go to Flights and tap Add flight. You will see your routes on the map along with stats such as total flights and kilometres. You can also link a flight to a trip.

How do I delete a trip? Can it be recovered?

Use the delete option on the trip and confirm. Deletion is permanent and cannot be recovered: its photos, places and diary entries are deleted with it, so make sure before you confirm.

You have 1 GB of storage for your photos. You can see how much you have used, along with your number of photos and trips, in the storage bar in your Profile.

When you get close to the limit you will see a warning. If you exceed it, uploading new photos is blocked until you free up space. Everything you have already uploaded stays available.

Delete photos you no longer need from your trips (or delete whole trips you do not want to keep). Remember that deleting is permanent. The storage bar in your Profile updates to show the space you have recovered.

In Friends, search by name, email or alias and send a request; they must accept it. Friends can see your Public trips, but not your Private ones.

What is a travel companion and how is it different from a friend?

A companion is someone who travelled with you on a specific trip. You add them to that trip and choose whether they can only view it or can also add their own photos and diary entries. A friend, on the other hand, is a connection on your account that is not tied to any trip.

Open the trip and choose Share. You can give a specific TripCoaster user view-only access (even if the trip is private), or copy an invitation link or send it through WhatsApp, email, Telegram and other apps.

What does someone see if they open a link and do not have an account?

The link opens a TripCoaster invitation page. To access the trip the person has to log in or create an account, and the access depends on what you chose to share (view only or as a companion). Invite links can be revoked by the trip owner at any time.

Pending requests and invitations appear as banners in the app. For access requests to your trips you can approve (choosing what the person can do) or reject; for invitations you receive, choose Accept or Reject.

How do I stop sharing a trip?

Open the trip's sharing options: you can remove the access of a person you shared it with or remove a companion, and revoke invitation links. You can also set the trip to Private. The person loses access immediately.

Check that you use your email or alias and the right password (use Forgot password if unsure). If you signed up with Google, use the Google button instead of a password. If your account is unverified, finish the email verification first.

My photos do not upload or stay loading.

Check that you are online and that each photo is JPEG, PNG, HEIC or NEF and under 50 MB. Also check you have not reached your 1 GB storage limit. If it still fails, try uploading fewer photos at once, or reload the page and try again.

The map does not load or appears blank.

Accepted Answer

Reload the page and check your internet connection. Maps need a browser with WebGL enabled, so try updating your browser or disabling extensions that block content.

When I type a date by hand in a date picker it is read wrongly.

Dates typed by hand in the date fields may be read as month/day/year (MM/DD/YYYY). Until this is fixed, please pick the date from the calendar that opens with the calendar icon.

Look in your spam or junk folder and mark TripCoaster emails as "not spam". Check that the email on your account is correct and that your inbox is not full. Codes expire after a few minutes, so request a new one if yours has not arrived.

An administrator created an account for me, how do I complete it?

Open the link in the invitation email and choose your username (alias) to finish setting up the account. If the link is invalid or has expired, it can only be renewed by the person who invited you. If you already completed it, just sign in.

When we update the Terms of Use or the Privacy Policy we need you to accept the new version to keep using the app. You can read them in the Legal Notice before accepting.

Can I recover a deleted account?

No. Deleting an account is permanent and all its data is removed, so it cannot be recovered. You can create a new account at any time, but it will start empty.

TripCoaster uses the GPS location stored in your photos to place them on the map and build trips, the places you add yourself, and the location you optionally set in your profile. It is used to draw your map and statistics, not to track you.

Your photos are stored on TripCoaster's servers, linked to your account. Who can see them depends on each trip: private trips are visible only to you and your collaborators, and public trips show friends a summary unless you grant them full details.

When you create or edit a trip you can add several places (cities and countries) as its destinations. Each one appears on your map and counts in your country and place statistics.

Scheduled: its dates are in the future, and you can add places and companions. Live: it is happening now and shows the day of the trip with shortcuts to add memories. Finished: the dates have passed, and a card lets you wrap up the last details (places, photos, diary) and finish the trip.

Open the trip and use Your rating to choose the stars and save. You can change it later. Your ratings let you filter your trips by top rated.
